It’s not to late to sign up to attend this Saturday, February 4th’s It’s Game Time Online event starting at 1:00 p.m. in room 2301 of James Madison University’s Health and Human Services Building, 801 Carrier Drive. Learn more about the 2012 National Video Game Challenge and attend a game creation workshop presented by Katya Hott of E-Line Media the company behind Gamestar Mechanic. NTTI Deadline Looming
Final deadline for application to the 2012 National Teacher Training Institute is February 6. Notification of acceptance will be made by February 16. Hurry and save your seat at this media rich professional development event!
 
NEW Apps Added for Teachers

New apps for iPad and iPhone have been added to the Teacher Resource page. Newest apps should help with classroom tasks and productivity: Wunderlist, BubbleSheet, Dragon Dictation and WordPress.

 
2012 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest

WVPT is once again offering the chance for all young writers to enter the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, a national-local contest designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning. The national contest is open to children in grades K-3. Virginia PBS stations are including students in grades 4 and 5 again this year. Although they will not be able to participate nationally, they will be judged and recognized locally. Click here for entry form and contest guidelines and rules.

Check Out Cubby's Book

WVPT proudly announces the creation of the first children’s book featuring Cubby, the WVPT Bear, titled Join Cubby, the WVPT Bear, At the TV Station.

WVPT Education Specialists Bly Brown and Kathryn Staton created the book, which is intended for children ages 4 to 8.

“We’ve been talking for years about putting a book together,” said Brown, who authored the book. “Since children love Cubby so much, we thought it would be great to provide a book that kids could look through whenever they wanted.”

IMPORTANT News: NTTI Registration Fee Lowered
At its January meeting, the Shenandoah Valley Technology Consortium (SVTC) strongly supported the 2012 National Teacher Training Institute (NTTI) by voting to cover $150 of the $200 registration fee for the first 100 PK-12 teachers from Consortium schools applying. This means teachers are able to have three days of top-notch professional development for only $50! NTTI will be held March 7-9 at JMU. Financial Literacy Program
 UVA Community Credit Union recently announced its support of the excellent PBS financial series Biz Kid$, the place where kids teach kids about money and business. Currently, the new season is airing Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. and the first four episodes are airing back-to-back on Tuesday, February 7, 4:00-6:00 a.m. Resources and lesson plans are available for educators. Word Girl Meets a Bully
Check out the new Word Girl episode, The Rise of Miss Power in which Word Girl tries on her own bully hat and meets the consequences premiering February 20. Jane Lynch is the voice of Miss Power. Word Girl airs on WVPT weekdays at 3:30 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

ITV Broadcast for 2011-2012
Overnight ITV broadcast will begin in Tuesday morning, October 4 and continue through February, except the month of December.
